At Ask Psychotherapy Hub, we care about the mind-body connection. When your nervous system feels safe, you can do lots of interesting things. In the same way that we know that mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum, we want to consider how building safety, self-awareness, and self-control happens within your whole body over time.  Emotional and psychological distress sometimes feels physical. 

 

Somatic therapists believe that psychological issues are not only expressed through thoughts and emotions, but are also stored in the body's nervous system as we go through emotional experiences. Somatic therapy recognizes the connection between the body and the mind, asking clients to be aware of both the trusted and confusing signals our bodies can offer us. Your therapist will integrate traditional talk therapy with body awareness techniques to help identify, address and release physical and emotional tension and build nervous system regulation strategies.
